What My Friends Have Taught Me
I dedicate this page to all the people I know and have known that are and have been an influence and contributed something from themselves to my life. I'm attempting to honor them by giving them credit for teaching me something of value.
- Patti taught me to slow down once in a while and re-evaluate yourself. Make sure you are on target.
- Susie taught me to choose your battles wisely. Sometimes, it's better not to fight the battle if it is going to cost you the war.
- Joe taught me not to immediatly react. Remove the initial, emotional reaction by taking time to think things through carefully. Form your reply, then respond in a non-threatening manner. Your viewpoint can be better presented in this manner.
- Jeral taught me that kids really do know and can understand more than you usually give them credit for. They just don't always know how to express themselves in a mature manner so you can see their capability for understanding.
- Goldbert taught me to look for a way around the system (whatever that system may be) to get what you want or need.
- Sabra taught me how to focus my energy on something that I can do when there is a problem that I can not solve or fix at the moment. By just going on as if the problem was fixed, or working on something else, the sense of frustration is greatly reduced because instead of feeling out of control, you are empowered by knowing there is something you do have control over. Also, by moving on to something you can do, the problem seems to be resolved in a much shorter time frame than it would if you wasted your time being frustrated on it.
- Melanie is the reality check of life; in the form of a bite or slap. (But, you need it once in a while.)
- Of course, there are more people and more teachings to be written. I have only scratched the surface. But, once again, due to time constraints of this assignment, I'll have to call it quits for now.
